Broadhempston Community Woodland (BCW)
is located in Teignbridge, in the heart of South
Devon. BCW was originally part of a 230-acre
traditional mixed farm which, in 1989, was first
planted with trees under the Farm Woodland
Scheme. This Scheme was designed to improve
landscape, provide new habitats and increase
biodiversity, as well as diversify the
countryside with the development of forestry
skills and products. Planting came to an end in
1995 and, with the support of the Forestry
Commission, public access was first granted.

BCW’s 50 acres are a beautiful and inspiring environment of maturing trees and natural habitat. We are now looking to the future and would like to develop this as a social resource with wider benefits. We wish to share the beauty and therapeutic space that BCW offers, to provide people with fresh experiences and support them in undertaking new challenges.
BCW is being developed as a social enterprise with activities centred in two areas: as a well-being wood and as a community educational resource.
